"OFFICIAL RADIO" OF THE 2017 NORRA MEXICAN 1000

April 14, 2017 (Agua Dulce, Calif.): Not only is P.C.I. Race Radios the official race radio of the 50th Anniversary NORRA Mexican 1000, but they are also big time participants. Scott Steinberger will be racing again this year; driving with Dave Sykes in the Fodge; an historic truck that is part Ford, and part Dodge. Sharlene Miscik will be Co-Driving with Luke Babb and George Peters on the 3 Donkey's Racing Team entry, and Matt Banuelos and his friend Nick will be helping NORRA on their bikes as members of the sweep crew.

Just like NORRA helped to create offroad racing, P.C.I. has been the innovator in racing communications for over 40 years. In 1972, Bob Steinberger provided communications for Bill Stroppe, Joe MacPherson and Walker Evans. At the 1974 Mint 400, Bob sent up three weather balloons with five hundred feet of coax cable attached; creating the first successful radio relay from a pit in the desert. P.C.I. has been continuously working to provide racers with the best communications possible from those early days until today.

“We would like to let everyone know to order what they need ahead of time as we will be doing the unofficial P.C.I. Contingency similar to what we did last year,”  said Scott Steinberger, “Any of the three of us can help out with GPS or radio problems on the trip; just come by the large P.C.I. Road Warrior RV. We have even been known to have an Ice Cream at the end of a hot stage!”

Scott is a regular with the NORRA Mexican 1000. He and his P.C.I. crew fit right in at “The Happiest Race On Earth!” NORRA is entirely about having fun and creating memories that will last a lifetime. Rally participants experience the most stunningly beautiful Baja scenery as they make their way down the entire length of the Baja Peninsula without the incredible stress and lack of sleep associated with a typical peninsula run. After each day of racing, they have enough free time to experience a different location in Baja with friends and family. Each overnight stop has its own unique charm and character. All competitors will be staying in the same towns and attending the same events every night. For the 50th anniversary there will be even more hospitality and special events each night. Join us and P.C.I. Race Radios at the 50th Anniversary NORRA, Mexican 1000.

ABOUT NORRA

Beginning in 2010, the National Off Road Racing Association (NORRA) began promoting a rebirth of the NORRA Mexican 1000 rally. The unique off-road rally was co-created by promoter Mike Pearlman to consist of special stages (unlimited speed timed stages in the dirt) linked together by controlled speed liaison / transit sections (highway). The one-of-a-kind, once-a-year, four-day rally includes vintage off-road vehicles and motorcycles, as well as modern desert Rally Raid cars, pre-runner trucks, buggies and motorcycles.

Pearlman's late father Ed and others established the first running of the NORRA Mexican 1000 off-road rally in November of 1967, which eventually became internationally recognized and evolved into the Baja 1000 in the mid-1970's.

The 2016 NORRA Mexican 1000 was supported by Azunia Tequila, Walker Evans Racing, South Point Hotel Casino, Bilstein Shock Absorbers and Mastercraft/Impact Safety.
