STEEL-IT "King Of The Mountain" Competition Comes To The Inaugural Yokohama NORRA 500!

AGUA DULCE, CALIF. – – During the inaugural Yokohama NORRA 500 presented by Method Race Wheels, a competition within the competition will be run. There will be a timed event up the mountain to Mike’s Sky Ranch, sponsored by STEEL-IT coatings. Mike’s Sky Ranch was a checkpoint on the original NORRA Mexican 1000, and has been a Baja landmark ever since. STEEL-IT’s unique stainless steel coating is the King of the Mountain when it comes to protective coatings; it has revolutionized racing. Their coating prevents rust, allows visual detection of cracks, and can be directly welded on so no special treatment needs to be done if repairs are necessary. Just touch it up when you’re done. STEEL-IT has sped up the preparation process between races, and now will be speeding up the NORRA 500 with the King of the Mountain competition. “STEEL-IT is excited to be a part of the inaugural NORRA 500,” says Brian Binkert of STEEL-IT Coatings. “Mike’s Sky Ranch has so much history; we are looking forward to creating more. The STEEL-IT King of the Mountain will hold the title for the entire year as the fastest driver up the mountain.”

All competitors will be stopped at the bottom of the hill, and then run the timed course to the top. The winner will be crowned STEEL-IT King of the Mountain. The King of the Mountain will be one of many unique experiences that await participants in the inaugural Yokohama NORRA 500. The NORRA 500 will be based in Ensenada, Baja California Mexico. The event will be a 4 day, family-friendly event. Competition will take place on two separate 250 mile race courses starting, and finishing in front of the Riviera Convention Center in Ensenada. Cars, and Bikes will run on unique race courses on day one, and then switch courses on day two. The safari class will run on the same courses. Each evening the NORRA team will offer locally inspired hospitality starting with happy hour events, and concluding with dinner. The event’s unique format is intended to reduce complicated planning, and logistics, and create an event that racers can easily manage. If you have always wanted to bring your family, and friends to see what NORRA is all about, or want to get your feet wet racing in Baja, this is the event for you. On Sunday, there will be an amazing Awards Ceremony held to NORRA party standards that will include brunch at a great location to be announced. Race registration is open now. You don’t want to miss it! For information on entering the race, and the latest news, go to www.norra.com.

ABOUT NORRA

Beginning in 2010, the National Off Road Racing Association (NORRA) began promoting a rebirth of the NORRA Mexican 1000 rally. The unique off-road rally was co-created by promoter Mike Pearlman to consist of special stages (unlimited speed timed stages in the dirt) linked together by controlled speed liaison / transit sections (highway). The one-of-a-kind, once-a-year, five-day rally includes vintage off-road vehicles and motorcycles, as well as modern pre-runners, trucks, buggies, UTVs, bikes and desert Rally Raid cars.

Pearlman’s late father Ed and others established the first running of the NORRA Mexican 1000 off-road rally in November of 1967, which eventually became internationally recognized and evolved into the Baja 1000 in the mid-1970's.

NORRA enjoys corporate partnerships with Yokohama Tire, Method Race Wheels, South Point Hotel Casino, Bilstein Shock Absorbers, STEEL-IT, RIGID, Multitool USA, Timberline, Schampa, Satellite Phone Store.com, PCI Race Radios, Warn, Biltwell, USActionTrax, Joe Hauler, the Off-Road Motorsports Hall of Fame (ORMHOF), B3KREATIV, and many more.
