There are also helpful technical videos, team interviews, and our ongoing video interview series “1000 Miles of Stories” where we catch up with some of the racers who helped to forge the sport decades ago. They recall their greatest tales of overcoming challenges, besting their rivals, and some of their earliest Baja experiences that they will never forget. Don’t forget to hit the subscribe button, and also click on the little bell next to it so you will get notifications when new videos are added. NORRA created the sport of off road racing over 50 years ago. Current NORRA racers are living the experiences that they will share around the camp fire for many years to come.

The reason why the NORRA Mexican 1000, and NORRA 500 have exploded in popularity is due to the challenge, beauty, and enjoyment that is found on the Baja Peninsula. NORRA competitors take part in an incredible event, and become seasoned Baja travelers along the way. The rally begins in Ensenada, and winds back and forth between the Pacific Ocean, and the Sea of Cortez on the way down to the finish in San Jose Del Cabo. Participants experience the unique charms of Ensenada, San Felipe, Bahia Los Angeles/Guerrero Negro, Loreto, and La Paz during overnight stops that allow them to slow down, celebrate the day, and recharge for the next day’s stage. Remember, the goal is to have fun; it’s not a torture test. Many people note the unique spots they pass on the trip down, so they can spend even more leisurely time at those favorite spots on the drive back home. "The Happiest Race on Earth!” is for everyone who loves the spectacular scenery, food, and rich culture of Baja, Mexico.

There are countless classes available for historic and restored vehicles, as well as Motorcycles, ATV’s, and modern race cars, and trucks. What if you don’t own a racecar? If you own a UTV, prerunner, or 4x4 truck, NORRA welcomes you with open arms. The Savvy Safari class runs the length of the Peninsula but at a much more leisurely pace. The safari class is open to street legal off road vehicles of all types. You will be guided by Off Road Motorsports Hall of Famer Curt LeDuc, who is a seasoned Baja racer, and explorer. NORRA UTV classes are also a blast, and have grown in popularity every year. There are classes for both stock and modified UTV’s. The motorcycle classes also run the gamut from restored classic British motorcycles to current race bikes. Dust off that CR 500 or show up with your brand new “thumper.” You will be glad you did.

ABOUT NORRA

Beginning in 2010, the National Off Road Racing Association (NORRA) began promoting a rebirth of the NORRA Mexican 1000 rally. The unique off-road rally was co-created by promoter Mike Pearlman to consist of special stages (unlimited speed timed stages in the dirt) linked together by controlled speed liaison / transit sections (highway). The one-of-a-kind, once-a-year, five-day rally includes vintage off-road vehicles and motorcycles, as well as modern pre-runners, trucks, buggies, UTVs, bikes and desert Rally Raid cars.

Pearlman’s late father Ed and others established the first running of the NORRA Mexican 1000 off-road rally in November of 1967, which eventually became internationally recognized and evolved into the Baja 1000 in the mid-1970's.

NORRA enjoys corporate partnerships with Yokohama Tire, Method Race Wheels, South Point Hotel & Casino, Bilstein Shock Absorbers, STEEL-IT, RIGID, Multitool USA, Satellite Phone Store.com, Biltwell, Cerveceria Transpeninsular, PCI Race Radios, The Fab School, Schampa, K&N, Baja Bush Pilots, Mag7 Pits, the Off-Road Motorsports Hall of Fame (ORMHOF), B3KREATIV, and many more.
